Niagara Falls - Ontario, Canada

We decided to visit Niagara Falls on the Canadian side as so many told us the falls were much better viewed from Canada than the US. 

Niagara Falls was beautiful!  We did not realize it is actually a group of three waterfalls - split up by Islands at the brinks of the waterfalls.

The largest is Horseshoe Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls, which is between the border of Canada and the US.

Fun facts: Length of brink: 2600 feet

Height: 167 feet

Volume of water: 600,000 U.S. gallons per second

The smaller falls on the US side are called the 

American Falls (separated form the horseshoe falls by Goat Island)
with the Bridal Veil Falls on the far right (separated by Luna island).

Fun Facts: Length of brink: 1060 feet

Height: 176 feet (due to rocks at the base actual fall is 70 feet)

Volume of water: 150,000 U.S. Gallons per second 

We got an up close, and sometimes wet view of the falls with several attractions - 

Journey Behind the Falls - Tunnels built behind the Horseshoe Falls where you can walk out right beside the falls, and in the tunnels you can look in from behind the falls ( all you see is water crashing down - LOL)

Hornblower Cruise (similar to the Maid of the Mist on the US side). Takes you out in front of the American/Bridal Veil Falls & Horseshoe Falls, where you definitely get wet!

We also took a Whitewater Walk along the river.

It's incredible to see the force of this river- class 6 rapids - 

huge waves and considered to be unrunnable.

Niagara's Fury was a 4D movie of the falls (our third poncho of the day) complete with more water plus snow!

They took this pic of us on a green screen, I didn't know what background they were going to use with it... but John did, so he was ready with a pose - but didn’t really give me much info except.. “you put your arms up and I’m going to grab you around the waist” - LOL   Love my fun/silly husband 💕

We also caught a few rainbows in the falls, 

a frequent occurrence I expect with all that mist and sun!

And a walk down Clifton Hill, a major tourist street 

that almost looks a bit like a Las Vegas strip with all the neon lights

We took a trip to “Niagara on the Lake”  
A really cool old town with flower and tree lined streets on Lake Ontario at the mouth of the Niagara River 

We especially enjoyed our carriage ride through the  town.

 

 The Gazebo on the lake was originally built for the movie The Dead Zone..  it was replaced when the original deteriorated and is popular for weddings now.

We could just see Toronto, Canada in the distance across Lake Ontario.

Next we crossed the border for views of the falls from the US side.

Nice views from the US, but we have to agree with the others we talked to, definitely much better views from Canada!

This trip also let us test out driving Julie (our coach) over the border for a future longer trip into Canada.  We made it thru border control with no problem. 😊

Interestingly, one of the Canada campground hosts we were talking to about crossing the border told us you won’t have any problems at the border unless you are from Texas (he didn’t know we were from Texas - LOL) - Canada is concerned about people bringing guns across the border, and doesn’t everyone in Texas own a gun!?!  Anyways, they did ask us if we owned any guns and where they were (back in Texas & not on the coach),  and they were happy with our answers so we got thru with no issues.
