Today we got to see Old Faithful in the lower loop of the park. We actually saw it erupt twice and the second time, later in the day, we saw a rainbow when it erupted – I think the picture captured it pretty well!

On our way to Old Faithful there were several other Geyser Basins we stopped at along the way:

We went through Firehole Lake Drive to see a spring, pool and geysers… one was the White Dome Geyser that was really unique looking as it has many yrs of mineral deposits built up - we waited around for almost an hour for it to erupt… but even though they say it is usually 30-45 mins, we had no luck seeing it 🙁

The Grand Prismatic Spring was the most spectacular –
we also hiked up a trail to see it from a look-out.

Also interesting to see are what is called “Bobby Sock” trees. Where the pine trees were drowned in the super heated water of the geysers etc.. and their bases were hardened and are white.
Next we drove down to the West Thumb Geyser Basin by Yellowstone Lake - very pretty by the lake.
On our drive out of the park, we saw a herd of elk grazing - late in the day is definitely the best time to catch site of the animals in the park.
