The “Mesa Arch” in Canyonlands is one of my favorites that I’ve seen so far. It’s on a cliff and has a really cool view of the canyon through the arch.
We hiked out along the canyon edge to the Grand View Point Overlook for beautiful panoramic views of the white rim sandstone, Colorado River canyon & monument basin (where you can see formations that look like totem poles)
Hike out to view Upheaval Dome.
It was recommended by both the visitor center and two different RV friends (both named Gary 😊) to take a drive on Shafer Trail - we took the trail all the way from Canyonlands back into Moab - it was a beautiful scenic drive. The first part was a lot of switchbacks off a high cliff edged road into the canyon!
This drive took us thru the canyon/river area that you can view from the lookout at Dead Horse State Park. This is also the area where they filmed the last scene of Thelma and Louise when they drove the car over the cliff.
Canyonlands is a very large park with four districts, however we only visited the( more popular “Island in the Sky” district of the park which is easily accessible from where we were staying in Moab Vs 2-6 hr drives to get there... The other districts are also more remote/off-grid, with primitive trails, camping and facilities.
We saw several vehicles like this one equipped to make the off-grid trip into the other districts, stocked with lots of water, extra fuel etc...
