Spearfish, South Dakota

Spearfish Falls

We met up with a group of Newmar Coach Owners as part of a group called the “Hoots” in Spearfish, South Dakota.  John is always using the word “Hootenanny”, so I told him he was actually going to one - LOL.   Like other coach rallies we met some new RV friends and also connected with folks we had met before, however it was also a bit different with Social Distancing,  but still had a great time.

Devil’s Tower, Wyoming

We took a trip to Devil’s Tower one afternoon,  and hiked around the base of the tower.  Saw a few people climbing the tower as well.

Prairie dogs were all over on the drive up to the tower.

Bison Feeding

One of the guys who works at the RV resort offered to take folks on Bison feeding trips to the ranch next door - they came out running to the truck to be fed - while they aren’t wild like in the parks, I was glad to be safe in the truck!

Jeep Ride

We went on our first organized Jeep ride in the Black Hills with 12 other jeeps,

led by a local and fellow FMCA RV club member.

We had a great ride through the beautiful Black Hills.  Now that we have the lift kit and big tires, we will be looking forward to doing more of these.

Spearfish Canyon/Falls

One of the most scenic drives in the area is thru Spearfish Canyon.

We also did a couple of hikes to see Spearfish Falls and other waterfalls.

Deadwood

Made a trip to Deadwood to walk around the town.  The best stop (twice!) was a candy shop on the outskirts of town yummy truffles and turtles.

And on our last day there we had SNOW!
First time for Julie to be in the Snow!
The snow didn’t last long in Spearfish, it was gone by the end of the day.  We did go for a drive up into the Black Hills & Deadwood which got a lot more snow. Thankfully when we left the next day all was clear on the roads toward Rapid City.

Deadwood entrance pre and post Snow!
Hard to believe we were kayaking on Iron Creek Lake on a warm/sunny day just a few days before this snow!
